BCSC Awards $22,000 In Scholarships, Total Series Awards Surpass $197,000
Lakewood, CA - The Bowling Centers of Southern California wrapped up their 15-month long Summer Shootout series with a $17,000 Finale at Cal Bowl in Lakewood. 67 bowlers took the lanes in four scratch divisions for a shot at the titles.
After 8 games of qualifying, the finalists were set in all four divisions. In the D Division (averages under 135), Owen Emery d. Roland Ly 149-136 to advance to the finals and take on top-seeded Christian Jimeno. In the final, Jimeno held his ground for a 178-167 win. In the C Division (averages 136-160), 4th seed Jaylen Collier d. 3rd seed Desirae Cordero 177-139 to advance. 2nd seed Jacob Torre won a nail-biter 167-166 over Collier to advance to the final against top-seeded Cameron Velasco. In the final, it was all Torre as he struck to a 204-154 win for the title.
Moving up to the higher average divisions, in the B Division (averages 161-185), 4th seeded Steven Vallejo took on 3rd seed Leo Lebel Jr. Lebel had the lanes locked in as he rolled to a 226-158 win. Lebel advanced to take on 2nd seeded Jai Kankariya, and in a tough battle, Kankariya came out on top 184-169. Kankariya advanced to take on top-seeded Joshua Yamauchi In the final. Kankariya posted 220 forcing Yamauchi to double in the 10th, and a trip-4 in the 11th secured the title 227-220. In the top-average A Division (averages over 185), scoring was good all day. 4th seeded Omar Ponce Jr. took out 3rd seeded Jerry Wang 233-223 to advance to the semifinal match against Tristan Perham. Perham was dead locked-in as he rolled to a 244-216 win over Ponce. This set up a rematch of a previous tournament final between Perham and top-seeded Daniel Hong. This match was all Hong as he ran away with the title 258-133.
Overall in the series of events, the Bowling Centers of Southern California awarded $113,075 in scholarships to over 240 different junior participants in the Southern California area. The BCSC is proud of their support of junior bowling to help insure the future for the game in Southern California.
